Karoo Uranium Mining Application Shrinks
31st July 2016
In a victory for those lobbying against uranium mining in the Karoo Tasman Pacific Minerals and Lukisa, subsidiaries of Australia's Peninsula Energy, have withdrawn their original application for uranium mining rights over 570,000 hectares of the central Karoo. They have since re-applied for uranium and molybdenum rights in respect of areas only 12% of the original application. While this represents only a partial victory for the activists it does consitute a considerable step back by the uranium miners and the process now starts again, affording further opportunity for lobbying of public reaction.
